Off-Track Garage Door Repair

When a roller leaves the track or the door hangs crooked, continuing to operate it can turn a repairable problem into damaged panels, bent track, or a fallen door. RX identifies what caused it and safely gets the system aligned again.

Symptoms homeowners often notice

  • One side of the door sits higher than the other
  • A roller has come out of the track
  • The door is jammed partway open or closed
  • The track is bent, separated, or shaking
  • A cable is loose or hanging beside the door

What to look for

  • A roller visibly outside the metal track
  • A gap between the track and wall brackets
  • Bent track near the point where the door stopped
  • A cable hanging loose on one side
  • Damage caused by a vehicle or object in the opening
Safety first

Stop using the opener immediately. Do not stand beneath the door, pull loose cables, force rollers into the track, or loosen brackets. An off-track door can shift or fall without warning.

A straightforward service visit

01

Secure the door

We stabilize the door before adjusting components so it cannot move unexpectedly during inspection.

02

Find the cause

We check rollers, cables, drums, track, hinges, springs, and impact damage to understand why it came off track.

03

Realign and test

After approved repairs, we align the system and carefully test balance, travel, and opener operation.

Off-track garage doors questions

Can I put the roller back into the track myself?

We do not recommend it. The door can be unstable, and cables or springs may still be under dangerous tension.

Why did my garage door come off track?

Common causes include impact, cable problems, worn rollers, loose track hardware, obstruction, uneven lifting, or operating the door with another failed component.

Does an off-track door need to be replaced?

Not always. The decision depends on panel damage, track condition, hardware, alignment, and whether the door can be restored safely and economically.
